With the UK’s recent announcement, 82 states now support a visit by the High Commissioner for Human Rights to West Papua.
The more states support the visit, the harder it will be for Indonesia to continue blocking the High Commissioner’s access.
Can you table a question in your parliament forcing your government to take a position? Model question here:
To ask the government, with reference to the Pacific Islands Forum and Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States request for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to visit and prepare a report on West Papua, whether the Government supports that proposed visit.
Eventually, the pressure will become too great for Indonesia to resist, and the lid will finally be lifted on Indonesia’s colonisation of West Papua.
