Indonesian military violence against West Papuan religious figures – summary

A number of West Papuan religious figures have been killed or wounded in recent months, in what has been a marked escalation of Indonesian state violence against the West Papuan religious community.  Those murdered include Pastor Yeremia Zanambani, a respected member of the Protestant Evangelical Church, who was killed in the Intan Jaya regency on.

APPG on West Papua to hold meeting – December 15

The All- Party Parliamentary Group on West Papua, comprised of 16 MPs from all of the UK’s leading political parties, is holding a virtual Annual General Meeting on December 15 at 12:45PM. Chaired by Alex Sobel MP, the meeting will be briefed by newly appointed interim President of the Provisional Government of West Papua, Benny.

Indonesia arrests own law-makers in new crack-down; UN responds

Eighty-four Papuans were arrested for ‘treason’ on November 17, 2020, in Merauke, as Indonesia moves to crush dissent in illegally occupied West Papua. Civil unrest is growing over Jakarta’s proposed extension of the failed 2001 ‘Special Autonomy’ law, set to expire on January 1, 2021. Those arrested included staff members and advisors of the Papuan.
